Learning the workplace culture

Every workplace has its own way of doing things.

If you’re a newcomer, you will need to learn what is acceptable, what is unacceptable, and what is expected. Here are some things to consider:

Do other employees dress casual or more formal? Are there certain days of the week when people are more casual? For example, some organizations designate Fridays as “Casual Day”.
When are coffee breaks?
Are birthdays celebrated?
Are visitors allowed at work?

Asking co-workers or a supervisor to explain the work environment will help you adjust to your new setting.
