When I decided to leave my job to seek a more accommodating one, Marjorie Longo, manager of the Employment Network at Work Without Limits, supported me through that transition, providing valuable guidance and resources. I had previously worked with the benefits counseling team at Work Without Limits to navigate Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) during my last job, and they helped me understand benefits I didn't even know I qualified for.

I was clear about my physical limitations, and with Marjorie's assistance, I defined what I needed in a new job. I was looking for an organization that:

  • Values my skills and experience
  • Looks beyond my disabilities
  • Provides accommodations if needed
  • Offers work that isn't physically demanding on my hands or back

Marjorie not only helped me understand how or if to disclose my disabilities to a new employer but also provided insights on navigating the complex SSDI system. Most importantly, she listened to my concerns and challenges.

Challenge: My goal was to find a job that provided both a healthy work environment and financial stability. I carefully defined my work boundaries and only pursued opportunities that fit within those limits. The process wasn’t easy, and there were tough days filled with frustration. But in the end, it was all worth it.

Hired! After four months of job hunting, I was hired by Glenmont Job Corps! This organization truly values a variety of backgrounds and has made me feel welcome. They provided accommodations so I was able to take the required CPR class and succeed in my role.

“Debbie’s transformation has been remarkable! She has gone from struggling with the effects of a previous toxic work environment to becoming a happy, healthy, and highly productive employee.”
-Marjorie Longo, CPWIC, Work Without Limits Employment Network Manager

Promoted! Within the first two weeks, I was promoted. The organization recognized the value of my experience and asked me to step into a vacant management position in my field.
